Effective Dating Profile Tips: Find Your Summer Romance
It is a warm summer afternoon, and you have just finished working for the day. Taking your usual route home you notice that a few of your favorite restaurants have officially opened their patio section. Among the crowd you notice a couple immersed in conversation over a chilled glass of red wine enjoying each others company, on the other side of the patio you notice a woman impeccably groomed in a sizzling cocktail dress who appears to be anticipating the arrival of her friends for a fun night of girl talk and Cosmopolitans, when you suddenly notice a handsome gentlemen who greets her with a fresh bouquet of flowers – he softly whispers in her ears “you look stunning”.
You arrive home feeling some what amorous and admittedly a little lonely, you decide to pour yourself a glass of wine, flip open your laptop and begin your journey into the world of online dating in hopes of finding your summer romance and dare I say, your potential soul mate. The online world of dating has become a popular alternative to the noisy, strobe light clubs and disastrous blind dates we have all experienced at some point in our life. However, amongst the numerous types of dating sites you question which one is most suitable to your personality and lifestyle? The best way to answer this question is to create a list of things you are potentially looking for in dating site. For example, are they faith based (ChristianMingle.com), do they have extensive compatibility matching services, as away to weed out time wasters (Chemistry.com) and do they have a good reputation for being a leader and innovator in the world of online dating (eHarmony.com). Such questions are important because they allow you to narrow down your search, making it easier for you to navigate through the dense listings of dating sites that may not produce the results you are looking for; after all you are paying a fee to utilize their services.
Once you have selected a site that you feel comfortable with, and it satisfies your criteria you decide to proceed to the next step, which is the set up of your online profile. Yikes! Profile. What will I say, what picture will I choose, and do I need to write my life’s biography? Firstly, I recommend asking your self what type of image do you want to convey. Let’s be honest, our image plays an integral role in our professional and social lives, and that also includes dating. Honestly, if you received a profile photo from a gentleman wearing a silky, red, buttoned down shirt, slicked back hair and tooth pick in the corner of his mouth you probably would not consider him the settling down type (delete right away)! Likewise, your profile image should reflect your personality; inner confidence and most importantly communicate respect. Thus, by visually communicating this message you are increasing your chances of being contacted by a potential seeker who possesses the same qualities as yourself.
There should be four photos in your dating profile. The first photo should be an up close beauty shot of yourself. Please, no glamor shots taken at your local shopping mall. Also, your profile photo should not be beautified beyond recognition. I usually advice my clients to utilize soft, neutral make up because it is not over powering and allows your natural beauty to shine through, thus keeping the focus on you. Your second photo should reveal a little more of your personality. For example, it should show you rollerblading or walking your dog at the beach, attending your favorite musical or sporting event. In addition, it is always a good idea to show an attractive evening look of you in an elegant cocktail dress. Side note; be mindful of how you are posing in your photos. Suggestive sexual poses are an immediate turn off and will most likely attract the wrong type of prospective to your profile. Furthermore, choose a color that will compliment your skin tone and draw attention to your physique in a classy and respectful manner. Your final photo (optional) should show you in a social setting with friends as a way to illustrate to potentials that you do have an actual life offline and the photos are 100% genuine. However, it is advisable to obtain permission first before posting photos of your friends. They may not want their faces shown on the Internet.
Moving along to your statistical information. Always be honest about your physical features (i.e. height, weight, and age). If you want to be successful in finding that special someone being open and honest from the beginning will prevent you from embarrassing yourself and making the other person feel they were tricked into meeting you. Imagine communicating with a potential date via email for weeks, only to find out on your first meeting that the person who portrayed himself as tall, dark and handsome might have looked that way ten years ago.
Lastly, the most important component of setting up your dating profile is your “About You” section. Take the time to consider what you are looking for in a potential partner. Once you have clarified your intentions for joining XYZ website You Can effectively articulate what it is you are looking for in a relationship and who that special someone is you wish to spend quality time with. A well-structured mini bio will answer who you are, what type of relationship you are interested in exploring and what you are looking for in a potential partner. By providing such details you have already set a reasonable standard, which will yield positive responses from quality potentials and eliminate the serial daters who are simply looking for a superficial relationship. Ultimately, your written profile should complement your personality and main profile image.
Remember to enjoy the process. You are in control of whom you want to communicate with and whom you choose to delete. Summer is such an adventurous and exciting time of year. I hope the few tips revealed in this article will help you find your summer romance!
